The SSP admits students for both the fall and spring terms. In addition, international students must provide certified English translations of transcripts and other documents that are not originally in English.
For details on the admission process, visit: http://cpass.georgetown.edu/ssp/prospective/admissions/.
Visa requirements
The Office of International Programs (OIP) at Georgetown provides Visa and immigration information as well as other services for international students. To learn more about Visa requirements visit OIP’s website at: http://oip.georgetown.edu/isss/.
Finances
SSP merit based aid is available to international students. Please note, however, the SSP does not offer stipends or funds to cover travel or living expenses, books, or health insurance.
Applicants who are non-U.S. citizens should apply for awards offered by their governments or by governmental and private agencies in the United States or elsewhere.
For information on financial aid, visit the CPASS Admission’s website: http://cpass.georgetown.edu/ssp/prospective/financialaid/.
Transportation
The metropolitan area is easily navigated by an efficient bus and subway system. In addition, the Georgetown University Transportation System (GUTS) provides bus service, free of charge for Georgetown students, to Arlington, Dupont Circle, and the University’s Law Center.
To view the GUTS routes and schedules, visit: http://otm.georgetown.edu/guts/index.cfm.
Housing
Georgetown University does not provide on-campus housing for graduate students, except those with disabilities. For a list of off-campus housing options, please visit: http://cpass.georgetown.edu/ssp/current/incomingstudents/42513.html.
Career Services
Many of SSP’s international students apply their security-related expertise in work for their respective national governments upon graduation. A sampling of national governments that are current employers of SSP graduates include Afghanistan, Chile, Columbia, The Republic of Korea, Mexico, Romania, Switzerland, and The Netherlands.
International students have the opportunity to network with security professionals in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, but they should be aware that internship and employment options are limited in the United States. For example, international students are very unlikely to be hired by the US Federal Government because of security clearance requirements.
Intergovernmental and transnational organizations, however, may be more likely to hire international students. Examples of such organizations include the European Union, the International Organization for Migration, NATO, the Organization for American States, the Organization for International Cooperation and Development, the United Nations, the World Bank, and the World Health Organization.
